How Group Gifting Works

September 22, 2026 3 min read

A big item on someone's wishlist is often too expensive for any one person to buy alone. Group gifting is how a few people give it together instead of everyone chipping in on something small.

How It Works, Step by Step

First, the wishlist owner adds the item they'd love to receive, like anyone else on GishFy would. Then a friend picks that item and starts a pool for it, setting a target amount. From there, others add what they're chipping in, and GishFy keeps a running total so everyone can see how close the pool is to its goal.

What GishFy Tracks - and What It Doesn't

GishFy records who pledged what and shows the group how much has been committed. It does not move money: the actual payment is arranged between the group outside the app, the same way it would be if you were organizing contributions over text.

Good Occasions for It

Group gifting works well for weddings, milestone anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, baby showers, and holiday gifts - basically any time a wishlist item is priced higher than one person wants to cover alone.

Starting One

You don't need to be the wishlist owner to start a pool - any friend can pick an item from someone's list and kick off a group gift for it. It's free to use, with no fees for setting one up.
