Why people look for a Giftster alternative
Giftster is designed around a family group, which is great if that's your situation. But plenty of gift lists aren't for a family. A wedding list goes to a hundred guests, a baby shower list goes to a mix of colleagues and cousins, and a friend's birthday list goes to whoever happens to be in the chat. For those, a single link you can send to anyone is simpler than inviting people to a group.
Bigger gifts are another reason. If several people want to contribute to one present, GishFy lets a friend start a group gift on an item. Others pledge an amount and everyone can see the running total. GishFy tracks the pledges only, so you settle the money among yourselves.
Long-distance gifting matters too. A gifter on GishFy can ask for the list owner's shipping address, and the owner has to approve the request before it's shown. That's useful when your family is spread across countries.
Where Giftster is the better choice
If you have a family that swaps lists every Christmas and birthday, and everyone will actually join, Giftster's group model is a great fit. Its biggest advantage over GishFy is the surprise: reservations are hidden from the list owner, so you never see what's coming. On GishFy, the owner can see what's been gifted.
Giftster also has apps and browser extensions, which make adding items quicker. On GishFy you add item details by hand, and there's no extension or automatic import from a link.
How to switch
Create a free GishFy account, start a list, and add your items. Then send the link to your family. They don't need an account to view it. There's no automatic import from other apps today, so you'd add your items by hand, starting with the ones you want most.
Common questions
Is GishFy free like Giftster?
Yes. Making and sharing lists on GishFy is free, with no credit card needed.
Do I need to create a family group on GishFy?
No. There are no groups to manage. Each list has its own link, and you decide who to send it to.
Can I keep gifts a surprise on GishFy?
Not fully. Only the owner and the gifter can see that an item has been gifted, so others don't see it, but the owner does. If keeping gifts hidden from the owner is essential, Giftster is the better option.
Can GishFy import my Giftster list?
There's no automatic import. You can add items by hand, with a name, link, photo, price, quantity and priority.
Does GishFy work for kids' lists?
Yes. Parents can make a separate list per child under their own account and share each link with relatives. There are no separate child accounts.
