How to plan eight nights without going over budget
Eight gifts per person gets expensive quickly, and few families actually do that. A popular alternative is to give each night a theme. One night might be for books, another for pajamas, another for something homemade, and another for giving to others. Most of the gifts stay small, which leaves room for one or two bigger presents, often on the first or last night.
A shared list makes this much simpler when several relatives are involved. Grandparents can see what's still needed for each night, and an aunt on the other side of the country can pick something and ship it without phoning around first. Each item on a GishFy list can only be gifted once, so when someone tries to take one that's already gone, they're told and can choose another.
If you have more than one child, make one list per child, or one family list with each child's name in the item. It keeps things clear for relatives and makes it easy to see who still needs what.

Tips for a smooth Hanukkah
Order early this year
With the first night on December 4, Hanukkah arrives well before the peak Christmas shipping rush. Black Friday, on November 27, falls one week before the first candle, so plan your list around it.
Spread the excitement
If you've got one big gift, consider saving it for the last night. It gives the whole week something to look forward to.
Include a giving night
Many families set one night aside for tzedakah. Let the kids choose a cause, and add it to the list as a family activity.
Ask grandparents to choose a night
Giving each relative one night to cover makes the list easier to follow and keeps things fair.
Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? These are the questions we hear most.
When is Hanukkah in 2026?
Hanukkah 2026 begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12.
Do you have to give a gift every night of Hanukkah?
No. Traditions vary a lot. Some families give a small gift each night, others give one or two, and some focus on gelt and giving to charity. Do what works for your family and budget.
What are good Hanukkah gifts for kids?
Dreidels and gelt, Jewish children's books, building sets, art supplies, games and pajamas all work well. A theme for each night makes it easier to choose.
How do I stop relatives buying the same gift?
Share one GishFy list. Relatives tap Gift on an item before they buy it, and each item can only be gifted once, so the next person is told it's taken and can choose something else.
Can relatives see my list without an account?
Yes. Anyone with the link can view a public or link-only list. To mark an item as gifted, they need a free GishFy account.
Get your eight nights planned
Start your list now and send it to family well before the first candle on December 4.
